Driving to work each day, our Marketing and Communications Manager, Mecca Morrison, has been noticing more homeless people and has felt compelled to take action. So over the course of the last few months she has developed a plan to help the homeless people she runs into throughout the Quad Cities.
Instead of simply driving by and handing people money in which they have to find a way to the store themselves, Mecca hopes to bring the store to them. With Bags for the Homeless, she will be creating bags that contain necessary items for the cold weather that is quickly approaching.
After doing some research, she has discovered a handful of items that will be most useful to the homeless when creating the bags; including the bag itself. The contents of each bag includes:
Hat | Scarf | Gloves | Hand Warmers | Blanket |
Toothpaste | Tooth Brush | Comb | Gum | Mints |
First Aid | Baby Wipes | Granola Bar | Chap-Stick | Pads (women) |
Razor | Encouraging Note |
Reaching out to the Riverbend Signworks team for help, Mecca shared her idea and the team is on board. Over the next few months, the Riverbend Signworks team, and their families, will be supporting her physically, by helping create the bags and handing them out, as well as financially. We will be giving a portion of all ordered signs between Black Friday and the first day of March.
The Riverbend Signworks team will be storing the bags in their cars for when they come across anyone who is homeless. Mecca hopes to encourage each person with the bags as well as her words, and will also be asking how she can pray for them.
Any ORDER that you make between Black Friday and the first day of March, we will be donating a portion to the Bags for the Homeless project. If you are interested in donating any of the items for the bag, we will have a collection area here in our office located at 979 40th Ave in Bettendorf, Iowa, and if you are interested in other ways you can help, feel free to give Mecca a call at 563 424 5841.
You can also visit our Facebook page to share the project with your friends.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me.
