For many businesses, the signage process can feel overwhelming and unfamiliar. New signs on buildings take more time and effort than most realize. It takes many procedures and steps to be completed correctly. Riverbend Signworks is here to help customers and clients both understand the process and take that burden off their shoulders.
Completing a Site Survey
To begin, many clients who are looking for new signage aren’t exactly sure what they are looking for or maybe what their space allows. They may have an outstanding idea, but the space may not accommodate it, the city won’t allow it, or it’s out of price range. We start the process with a site survey. During this survey, we talk to our potential clients about their needs, desires, and absolute musts. Additionally, we take accurate measurements of the area where the signage will be installed so there are no errors later in the process. Often existing signage needs to be removed, so we make note of this as well.
Design & Proof
This step and the next usually coincide. Designing the perfect sign takes time and effort. We take the ideas that the client has given and create designs based on those ideas. We also must consider the measurements taken during the site survey in addition to changes that come up during the process. Most designs go through a few revisions before final approval. We typically send a proof to the client and make modifications from there. Once a proof has been sent back and forth (usually a few times), we have the finalized signage along with the materials that will be used to create the sign.
Permitting
Depending on the type of sign that will be installed, cities require permitting and have specific regulations within each city. Davenport and East Moline do not have the exact same permitting requirements. It is imperative to work with a company that knows the permitting requirements in the cities and spaces within the area. These regulations are in place for many different reasons including safety, aesthetic appeal, and zoning requirements.
Fabrication
We’ve finally made it past the idea stages of measurement, design, and permitting. Now we come to the first physical stage – fabrication. Depending on the materials used for the sign and the process for creation, this can take a very short amount of time – one day – or a lengthy process – months. Vinyl overlays typically take a short amount of time. However, signs that include LED backlighting, multiple mediums, or transformation of the material itself (such as wood) take longer.
Installation
Yes, we install the sign! Not only are we able to create the design and sign itself, but we have a team of installers ready to install that sign in your space. At Riverbend Signworks, we know the installation process and have people who take the necessary steps to ensure your sign is going to stand up to weather, people, and use. Additionally, our Elliott V63 installation truck allows us to safely install signage at a wide variety of heights and locations all while using our own equipment.
From the initial site survey through final installation, our team works closely with clients every step of the way. The result is signage that not only looks great but is built safely, professionally, and durably.
